HOW TO MEASURE DRESS SHIRTS

Posted by Jeffrey Fortner on

Dress shirt measurements are determined by the circumference of your neck, chest, and waist and the length of your armsWe've put together a short video and written tutorial on how to properly gather these measurements in order to achieve a superb fit and comfort level.

Truwear offers shirts in alpha sizing (small, medium, large) based on your chest and torso measurements and numerical sizing based on your neck circumference and arm length.  Use a soft measuring tape when figuring out your measurements as this is easily wrapped around the body.

Pro Tip: If you don’t have access to a soft measuring tape you can use a piece of string, and then lay the string flat out on a tape measure.

Measure Your Collar

Measure around the base of your neck where your shirt collar normally sits.

Pro Tip: Add 1-2 fingers in-between the tape and your neck to ensure comfortable breathing.

Measure Your Sleeve Length

Start the tape at the center back of your neck, run the tape over the top of your shoulder and down to the point where your hand starts to widen at your wrist or the base of the back of your hand.

Measure Your Chest

Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your chest and back. Start at the top of the sternum or breastbone and wrap around under the arms. Follow around until the tape meets itself again. Make sure to keep the tape measure parallel to the ground.

Pro Tip: Take a deep breath in so the measurement is not constricting.

Measure Your Waist

Measure around your waistline which is the narrowest part of your waist. Start at the top of your belly button and wrap the tape around your back. Follow around to the belly button until the tape meets itself

Pro Tip: Stand naturally to get a correct measurement and relax your breathing.

Now, all you have to do is compare your measurements to Truwear’s size chart. These measurements should roughly match up. Also, rest assured, Truwear products have comfort built in and our performance stretch material will give you 360° mobility allowing for supreme fit.
